Kate Orme is primarily but not exclusively a maker of three dimensional work. She feels that human beings look for themselves in sculpture, the most anthropomorphic discipline of the arts. Her practice is rooted in using the language and connotations of materials to express her interest in life, the human condition and what might be beyond. Each different material brings an individual meaning and inference to her work, many also bring a history. Orme uses these to describe her own narrative, whether it is a curiosity about her origins, an investigation of her present or a musing about an afterlife. Using materials in this way makes it possible for Orme to remove the 'personal' from her work so that it becomes 'universal', and something that anyone can read and identify with.
Kate Orme works from her studio in the Yorkshire Artspace, Persistence Works, Sheffield.
